Speak to Persy....

NewOnYou: La tua esperienza italiana è stata significativa?

Grazie Yaniv.

International version:

I'm really proud to introduce you Yaniv Persy the designer who three years ago lauched his own label Persy Ltd. Now he is at his third collection and I think the best way to really understand a designer and his work is... speak to him! Enjoy the first NewOnYou interview! Enjoy Yaniv!

NewOnYou: How much of your roots (Yaniv was born in Israel in 1978) influence the way you create?
Persy: I believe that our past has a huge impact of our future. I was a curious child , always wanted to learn new things of many fields. I was interested in research, development and my own evolution from that. The interface between patterns and textile that created uniqueness. My main sources of inspiration are coming from my roots; my grandmother and my aunt used to knit macramé and crochet and as a child I had a great mentors to learn from. Actually my father's family are artists and I think it had great impact on my skills and evolution as a designer. My main source of inspiration can come from many areas , my environment in which I live, nature, events in my daily life, or social changes and processes. I love flea markets, and remember myself as a child in Latin America where I grew up in many countries – Bolivia , Mexico ,Venezuela, Brazil, wandering through them and buying textiles and things that excited me, which influenced me to a great extent.

NewOnYou: What do you think is the reason for a collection inspired by the contrast?
Persy: ) What do you think is the reason for a collection inspired by the contrast?
I always like mixing. I think today's it is very hard to innovate .New ideas are created from mixing, I love designing in contrasts to create a sharp strong silhouette but at the same time to mix textures and craftsmanship. I love the translation of romantic , but gothic and strong at the same time, something that blows your mind and gives you a venture to a certain period\past but still has a scent of the future.

NewOnYou: Who and how much of the famous designers whom you've got to work with, influenced you more?
Persy: Well for me moving abroad and working aside to leading fashion houses was a huge and great impact of whom I am today as a designer. After winning in LCDA price, for modern femininity at 2006, I immediately understood that I need to strength and express my textile abilities.I have experienced many collaborations with different important houses, each and one of them gave me the tools that I needed. It’s a great way to say thank you for teaching me everything I know. At the time there weren’t many fashion houses that made unique textile development combined with experimental cuts and for me Galliano was the pinnacle of my studies –a dream come true. I was working under Steven Robinson & Elisa Palomino ,John Galliano’s right hand at the time. I learned great knowledge and sensibility for textiles from Elisa she is a master of textiles.

NewOnYou: Do you think that an adequate and focused education in design is essential to undertake this job successfully or experience matters most?
Persy: Well for me education is important , it gives you a frame of time to put yourself under practice and experiencing many fields furthermore learning about your self as a designer.I do agree when people say either you have it or not, being an artist or fashion designer is equivalent for me , you're born with it , it is in our genes . For me the real practice began during my 1st year at Shenkar college , those collaborations made me grow and learn better who I am as a designer. It evolution of our skills as designers are a matter of learning and experiencing . I learned during the years that sharing and teaching is very important , you give and take .Today I try to give as much knowledge as I can to our interns ,I work with them as a team we contribute each other and teach them .Those tools they get in return are important for their future and growth .

NewOnYou: Was your Italian experience significant? Do you think that now the way you work it would be different withoutthat experience and how much?
Persy: Well as I said each experience has different influence on me as a designer , I think it is much more than learning fashion , it was for me learning the culture, people , places , language , that made me grow and made me decide to establish myself there .

NewOnYou: Do you think awards are crucial for the results of a designer or that only the recognition of public has a real value?
Persy: Yes, no doubt its an added value. I was awarded for “Modern Femininity” at the LCDA Awards in 2006 and awarded as “Promising Young Israeli Designer” at the I.C.E Awards 2007. The LCDA award show in 2006 mapped out my signature of net embroidery pieces. Those researched pieces, of net embroidered craftsmanship made the industry and leading houses acknowledging me as a designer and seeing my abilities. It is a great platform for people to see designers work.

NewOnYou: What does it mean for you participation in the upcoming Tel-Aviv fashion week?
Persy: Well it is the first show during Tel-Aviv fashion week for Persy , for me it is very exciting and great honor being a part of the scene.I think it is a good auction to show my fourth season Fall 2012-13 earlier in Tel-Aviv.

NewOnYou: Soon in Italy with a flagship store?
Persy: Well I hope it is going to be soon. My plan for now is to learn better about the business , it is quite complicated to manage it all at once but interesting and I believe after achieving important points of sale worldwide it would be a great time to open my own flagship in Milan.

NewOnYou: Do you think I should dress Persy? and why?
Persy: Defiantly is there a question? a client once told me: “When I wear persy I feel feminine and confident. For me wearing persy is much more than a garment it is a statement of quality and design”. I want persy 's women to wear those garments in 10 years and they will still be relevant and chic.

I want to thank very much Yaniv Persy for his kindness and collaboration at this interview; I hope him a great future as a designer. Concerning to me, I hope to have many many other possibilities to post future Persy's collections and many many other occasions to... speak to him! Thank you for your time Yaniv.
